What's happening in 2/3M!
CERES Excursion Grade 2/3M on PhotoPeach
On Tuesday we started ‘Solving the jigsaw’. We also went for a walk around the street of Malmsbury. On the walk we went in to a pine tree plantation. In the plantation we saw rubbish and burnt furniture. We also saw and touched lots of other things like leaves, wattle, mushroom, ducks, water and trees. We also stopped and listened during our walk, we heard lots of different sounds such as ducks quacking, a train and birds chirping.
We have been reading lots of information reports and been writing lots of descriptions of different animals. Joshua bought in his puppy Benny and we got to describe him. We have also been looking at an adjective and how we use them in our writing.
In maths we learnt the months of the year and how to read a timetable and played some maths games.
It was Lucy’s birthday on Wednesday (Happy Birthday Lucy!) and we have Art today.
This week was fun!!!

As part of this unit students will be looking at the school, home and town (Malmsbury) environments and how our action here can affect many other places. Students have already begun looking at the school environment and will be walking down the street shortly to see what we can find. There will also be a whole school excursion to CERES in Melbourne as part of this unit.

1/2 Camp
On Thursday the 5th of May the 1/2s and Tiana went on Bendigo Urban Camp. We had all our bags, jumped on the bus and drove off.
The first thing I want to write about is Bendigo pottery there was lots of clay. They make vases out of clay and pots. There was a monkey but we didn’t find it. We watched a movie that helped us find out what Des Nan’Caro did. Des Nan’Caro was a head fire worker. He cleared coal from the kiln. The movie was in a giant kiln that had no fire and it was projected. If there was a fire it would explode.
Then, we went to Rosalind Park we saw fling foxes. We had lunch on the grass near Bendigo Creek. It smelt a bit funny because there was a big hole somewhere in the park. After lunch we rolled over each other. We went to the best playground ever.
Finally, we went to the discovery centre there’s a giant ant watching you. There’s a lot of electrical things. Over one thousand volts. For dinner we had pizza. There was a sleeping room. You could sleep in it. There was a lot of exhibits it was really fun. There was a vertical slide it was awesome. You get down it in a second. The planetarium was good it taught us about planets and stars. We watched Garfield and Robots they were both funny!!
Camp was awesome!!!!!!!!

Grade 2/3 had a very busy start to this term with both the Grade 1/2 camp to Bendigo and the Grade 3/4 camp to Sovereign Hill.
This term we have been reading lots of informative/information texts about the Goldfields and other cultures. We have also been learning about Explanations and how to write them. Students have also been experimenting on ToonDoo (http://www.toondoo.com/) to make their own comics.
In maths we have:
Our inquiry unit this term is ‘Australia: who we are, where we come from’. As part of this unit students have been looking into where it is their families have come from . Students asked their families questions, wrote a draft and are currently publishing their final copies. We have also done some art works of houses and huts from the Goldfields using natural objects such as sticks, sand, rocks, etc.
Hello World!!!
Guess what we’re going on camp, we’re going on camp!!! YAH
The Grade 2 students are very excited about their sleep over at the Bendigo Discovery Centre. Where we also get to go to Bendigo Pottery and have clay play, visit the art gallery and have lots of time to experiment with all the different exhibits and activities. On Friday we also get to visit the Chinese museum and eat some Chinese food for tea. We will post some photos and student comments when we get back from camp.
The Grade 3 students are also very excited for the week after they are all going to Sovereign Hill for three days and two nights. We have watched a video about some of the things we are going to do on camp; we are all looking forward to getting Gold Fever and looking for some gold. We are also very excited to see the sound and light show ‘Blood on the Southern Cross’.
Our Grade 3’s will also be completing their NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy And Numeracy) assessments in week 3 (Thursday 12th and Friday the 13th).
So a very fun and busy couple of weeks ahead for Grade 2/3M
Thank you Pat for the stick insects, we really love them. The female’s mouths look like scissors when they are eating. They eat gum leaves.
